My husband and I file our taxes on paper because 1) there's a form we have to file for deductions that doesn't come on the free Turbo Tax site and 2) because, oddly enough, I get a little bit of strange SAT test like satisfaction from doing them myself with paper and pencil.
We did not get as much of a return this year as in the past - a whopping $26 - but every little bit helps. We listed the bank account for direct deposit and sent them off to Uncle Sam on April 15th. Here's where we run into the problem. In late April, a schmuck in the Far East thought it would be fun to take all the cash out of our bank account. It's so much fun looking at the huge negative number in your bank account along side multiple charges from an ATM in Burma. Needless to say we had to change our account which makes the account number for direct deposit on my tax return null and void.
Now I appreciate the thought and letting me know what's going on but do you really think it is a good use of my tax dollars to receive 2 - count 'em - 2 letters from the IRS including 4 pieces of paper, 2 envelopes and 2 mailing fees to tell me that our refund couldn't direct deposit so they were going to send me a check? Here's an idea - JUST SEND ME THE CHECK! I promise you that I'm smart enough to figure out that the money wasn't directly deposited.

At least it was only $26. We get back a lot more than that, which really only means we've given the govt. an interest free loan all year.
ReplyDeleteAnd apparently they used our money to send you two notices.
